Getting Started

This list gives you a general overview of what you will want to do as you get started in your participation of MESDT.

  1. Teams must consist of at least 1 lead adult facilitator

  2. All must be US Citizens

  3. Formulate your teams:  In creating your teams, there are some things to keep in mind:

This is a tremendous opportunity and we would like to see as many students as possible take advantage of it.  Some of you have concerns in that you come from small schools (or home schools), and we understand that.  We strongly encourage you to expand your group size to share this opportunity with as many students as you can – even if they aren’t your “best and brightest”, but do have an interest in space, Earth science, or engineering.  We’ve found a classroom-sized group is ideal, but smaller (and dedicated!) groups can thrive as well.

  4. Download the MESDT application

  5. Incorporate hands-on activities that will assist your students in developing their project

  6. Participate in optional monthly teleconferences/video-conferences to increase teacher and student background knowledge about Mars
